Aging in Place – At Home
Home care allows you to continue to live in your home and continue your regular daily lives without interruption. Though there may come a time when Home Health is needed or a transition to personal care/assisted living, or even skilled nursing (nursing home) YNC can help you navigate those options while providing services to help you transition with grace and dignity.
Home Care vs Home Health Care: What’s The Difference?
The words home care and home health are used synonymously but they are 2 different things:
Home care in Pennsylvania offers non-medical support, while home health offers medical services.
Home Care
- Includes personal care, companionship, meal preparation, and light housekeeping
- Helps with daily activities like dressing, feeding, and bathing
- Does not need to be prescribed by a doctor
- Can possibly be covered by long term care insurance or Veterans Association Benefits and are mostly private/self-pay
Home Health
- Includes skilled nursing, physical and occupational therapy, speech therapy, and medical social workers
- Is prescribed by a doctor
- Is sometimes called skilled home health or medical home health
- Is covered by insurance
- Is provided by licensed professionals

Is Home Care Better than Assisted Living?
Truthfully, that answer depends on your needs. In-home care provides you with almost the same support as a personal care home and is less of a financial burden. Home care also allows you to stay in your home with the freedom of your daily routine(s) with true 1:1 support. Personal care homes offer 24/7 support, ADL/IADL support, maintenance free living, meals, medication administration, activities and transportation services. Assisted Living (in PA) is a higher level of personal care is a set down from full skilled nursing. These settings are usually staff based on care needs so 1 aide could have 6-10 people and 1 nurse 10-15.
Though both settings can stand alone, those attached Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRC) are ideal as they have a full array of other services that allow for more support if or when the time arises.
