A few weeks ago a YNC employee was working on a partnering campus and notice an individual with a campus Social Worker mourning the recent loss of a spouse. Our staff member walked by wanting to help console, however, this particular individual was not overly ready to share with others.
The Social Worker assisted resident back to her apartment and out the window she saw the YNC employee embracing the son of the resident in the parking lot. This employee did not know him but she heard from others that his father had just passed away. This shining star employee gave him an Angel pin which he had taken back in to his mother to remind her that Angels are all around us and that her loved one is still looking out for her.
Little did our YNC staff member know that moments before, the resident and her daughter were asking how she can manage in her apartment without the help of her husband, the Social Worker had strongly recommended using YNC services. The daughter was planning to set up the call but her mother is hesitant because she doesn’t like anyone in her home. They wrote down the YNC caregiver’s name. They were greatly touched by this act of kindness from a stranger.
Michelle is the caregiver in the story and was truly the Angel that day. Michelle’s act of kindness helped a stranger and their family know things will be ok.
This gesture is a great reminder of our “why” in what we do each day.
Thank you Michelle for representing YNC and the mission we provide each day.
